Bethesda have released their third video in a six part “behind-the-scenes” feature about id Software’s upcoming game, Rage. Rage is a first-person shooter cum Role Playing Game where the player is set on a post-apocalypse world mostly-destroyed after an asteroid impact. As the dust settles several years later, the player ventures out into the wasteland, and must complete quests in the vein of Bethesda’s other multi-award winning RPG series, Fallout. Players must quickly adapted to the changed world. With breathtaking visuals and massive production values, the players will be enthralled and become immersed in the Rage world.

This new behind-the-scenes video is titled ‘The Arsenal’, the id Software game designers go through the various weapons, ammo types, and gadgets you’ll find in the wasteland.

Rage looks a lot like Fallout 3 on the surface as is also set in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by all sorts of mutants, gangs, factions along with murderers and those who are just trying to survive. This time though, the protagonist Rage wakes up from years of sleep to find the world a different place; a world fraught with danger, mystery and mutants with a totalitarian regime trying to muscle everyone into falling in line.

However, as the latest trailer “The Dawn” show (check out both parts below), there is a lot more to Rage. Rage takes on the doomsday scenario of the asteroid 99942 Apophis, which is a real asteroid that is due to pass close by Earth in 2029, and how the world changes after its impact. There are also driving and racing aspects to the game, as a large proportion of Rage requires you to drive across the devastated landscape to reach new goals and objectives. As it driving is such a big part of Rage, players can upgrade their vehicles over the course of the game, and it doesn’t stop there. Weapons can also be customised.

Below is a short history of Rage’s time line and how the story begins:

• 2004: Scientists detect an asteroid the size of Manhattan spiraling in deep space. Excitement turns to concern as predictions have it passing dangerously close to Earth’s lunar orbit sometime in 2029. The asteroid is dubbed 99942 Apophis – after the Egyptian god of chaos.

• 2024: Apophis is privately assigned a Torino rating of 7, the highest ever on the scale to measure the likelihood of an object impacting Earth. Publicly, the US and other collaborating governments announce a rating of 4. NASA and the European Space Agency believe the rating will be increased to 10 within 12 months.

• 2025: The “Ark” project begins. Capsules are buried deep underground and designed to burrow out at preset dates several years after the disaster. The goal of the project is to preserve knowledge, genetic samples and other items essential for human life. Thousands of Arks contain groups of “inhabitants” who are injected with Nanotrites, a new untested super-science of the day, allowing them to survive cold sleep.

• 2025–2027: The government stockpiles massive arsenals of weapons and supplies within hardened fortifications deep inside the Earth.

• August 2029: News reaches the general population as smaller meteorites impact the Earth ahead of Apophis. The Ark project is initiated.

• December 2029: Apophis strikes the Moon and slams into the Earth carrying the force of 1,000,000 megatons of TNT. Entire countries are devastated, cities are erased, and lakes and rivers evaporate. The Earth is cast into a multi-year impact winter as the sun is blocked by dust and debris in the stratosphere. Within one year, 80% of all life disappears on Earth.

• 2035: The dust starts to settle as survivors crawl out of caves and shelters to a world that is nothing like before. Civilization is gone, and little hope remains. People group together in loosely formed clans. Small settlements and camps are constructed as many try to find shelter from the unknown dangers lurking in the wasteland that has become Earth.

The original launch in the UK was moved from the 11th November to the 4th and has since been changed again.

Good news for all those Uncharted fans itching to get their hands on the game after playing the Multiplayer Beta, which is still available online via PSN for the next week

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception RRP: £49.99 Price: £38.91

Retaining a similar game engine to its predecessor, Batman: Arkham City will involve both fighting and puzzle-solving tactics within its varied gameplay, and will once again feature a number of iconic villains from the DC Comics universe. The vast array of gadgets featured in the first game will be available in the sequel with the addition of a broadcast tracer to hunt down signal sources and smoke bombs to use as a cloak for stealth tactics.

Footage released so far promises a vast gaming world with the same magnificent attention to detail in the graphics and sound, promising the incredible cinematic depth and excitement that Batman: Arkham Asylum delivered in style. Also present in the new game are the diverse ranges of combat moves which enable gamers to fight a multitude of foes with Batman.

What exactly is the story? Well, the game is set a year after the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Taking the credit for halting the Joker, former Arkham warden Quincy Sharp has risen to become Gotham’s Mayor. Because Arkham Asylum is in ruins, a section of the city slums are militarised as a prison known as Arkham City, wherein the twisted villains have free rein so long as they don’t attempt a breakout. When Two-Face plans a public execution of Catwoman to curry favour with the inmates, Batman resolves to enter the city and stop him in his tracks.

One to watch out for in 2011, gamers are already desperate to delve back into Gotham as the Dark Knight.

The BBFC awarded Resistance 3 an 18 certificate for its ‘strong bloody violence’, with no cuts made to any of its content. The game will also include 45 minutes worth of cut scenes.

They have also revealed that the game disc also included multiple demos from other SCEE games, which include inFAMOUS 2, Killzone 3 and Motorstorm Apocalypse, an obvious ploy to increase sales on these big AAA PS3 titles. The Killzone 3 demo comes in both 2D and 3D versions.

If you don’t want to wait until the release of Resistance 3, Killzone 3, inFAMOUS2 and Motorstorm Apocalypse demos are already available to download from PSN.

Resistance 3 follows on from the previous two titles and humanity’s struggle for survival as they attempt to fight off the invading Chimera. You take control of mankind’s last hope, Joseph Capelli, across a devastated America visiting several new locations including, Haven, Oklahoma and New York City

Resistance 3 launches exclusively on PlayStation 3 on September 9th.

Annoyingly, some scripted scenes have crept their way in, those little cinematic scenes that interrupt the game and which you have to watch in order to get a hold on the direction of the story. While these can sometimes be necessary, when you want to get on with the game they can be at times frustrating, especially in the first person shooter genre where you feel you should be in the midst of the action nearly all of the time.

As in the original some elements remain, you play as the character Alcatraz, wearing a nanosuit which allows you to leap great heights, cloak yourself and scan the surrounding environment. As well as battling the aliens you are also fighting off those who want to steal your nanosuit. The first half of the game can seem a little slow and repetitive but this is more than made up for in the second half where the more memorable battles take place, the multiplayer option also gives the game more longevity. Crysis was a landmark game, and Crysis 2 is of a similar quality. Not revolutionary, but more than satisfactory and a worthy sequel.

The characters, storylines and music are all lovingly recreated for the Lego world, and work perfectly. The games have cornered the child market, but there is retro fun to be had for older children, teenagers and adults looking for some retro fun. Anyone who hears the legendary John Williams score will be running for the joypad/lightsaber, regardless of their age!

In the latest instalment, fan favourite scenes from Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and seasons 1 and 2 of the hit animated TV series are retold using the tried and tested pick up and block oriented LEGO video game play mechanics, through 20 story-based missions and 40 bonus levels. There are so many secrets to find and areas to explore within the Star Wars universe, players will be kept busy for hours and will continue to return long after the game is completed. This has been a regular plus point for all the Star Wars games so far.

Additional features within the game include plenty of new characters, new combat abilities and 2 player support with split screen. There are 16 different star systems to explore, all beautifully recreated, with the added bonus of some huge ground battles to get involved in.

The graphics and sound are fantastic, and the gameplay includes puzzles that even seasoned gamers will be scratching their heads over. Alternatively, you can get out your laser or lightsaber and just get into a fight.
